Why is the usage of ASME standards restricted?

Answer

Starting January 1, 2022, all American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) published standards currently available on IHS Engineering Village have had restrictions placed on them by the publisher, in the form of digital rights management (DRM) software.

The DRM changes for ASME standard documents include the following:

  • No sharing of DRM locked documents
  • Copy-and-paste of document text is allowed
  • If you open a document on a specific device, that document can only be opened again on that same device
  • Downloaded documents are available for online/offline usage for a limited time

In order to download these DRM locked files, users will also need to download the FileOpen DRM plugin on their computer.

For full information on ASME’s DRM, see the document provided by IHS Engineering Workbench.
